'Sup people. I was gone most of this weekend. But I was thinking about how it would be cool if there was another species of sentient lifeforms on Earth. I was also thinking I could incorporate this into Steaming Skies. I know I'm not going to put fantasy things inside of it, however I figured I had already deviated from actual history enough to make this plausible. My idea is to say that they shared a common ancestor with Humans, albeit a very loose ancestor. They evolved in a separate area, such as the Balkans, perhaps. I picture them as being slightly more apelike, with feet that look like hands. Slightly shorter than humans, with longer arms and less broad shoulders. They are hardier, with stronger bones and muscles, and are both faster and more agile, however have lacking cognitive functions. While they are smart, they do not have a brain that allows them to innovate. They can be extremely smart, and know how to build a Steam Engine from scratch, but due to their brain not possessing parts that the Human brain does, they are incapable of actually thinking something new. Thus, while the *insert name here* can learn all about something, they will never invent anything. This often leads them to being used as the primary Slave Labor force on Earth. So, they were the primary slaves in the United States, and were liberated after the fall of slavery in the US following the American Civil War. I don't have a picture of them drawn yet, however I want them to be slightly harrier, with teeth that aren't quite pointy, but are like rounded triangles. The reason for this is to be able to easily identify them, as they will look mostly human from a distance.  Their face should also be less flat and less neotonized.

Any thoughts? Is this a good idea? I think this is a good way to expand on the lore of SS, while also subtly and slightly touching on subjects such as racism, slavery, and discrimination. What do you guys think?
